Enhanced vehicle functions
This second CityLog pillar focuses on new systems for the freight transport, handling and delivery. More particularly, the solutions here proposed include:
- a set of complementary vehicles – a heavy-medium truck and two vans – that enable a new transshipment-based logistics model. Basically, a high-capacity vehicle operates as a “freight bus” to carry several load units close to the city centre. Then, the final delivery is a task for the distribution vans.
- new load units that ensure the interoperability between the freight bus and the distribution vans. The design is based on compact containers with extensible legs for easy transshipment operations, that means no cranes or complex actuators on the vehicles, no special equipments in the depots and in the public areas;

- the “BentoBox”, that is a sort modular pack station with removable trolleys.
