Overview
The purpose of the CITYLOG project is to develop an adaptive and integrated mission management tool to be incorporated into innovative vehicle and transport solutions that will improve and increase the sustainability and the efficiency of urban delivery of goods.
The logistic system of a city can be improved from three points of view:
- logistic-oriented telematic services: an effective design of this kind of services will give a decisive contribution to improve mission planning processes through an optimised routing and drivers’ support systems. The main goal is to reduce the number of unsuccessful deliveries towards the final customers thanks to the development of tracking and communication capabilities.
- vehicle technologies: they are the key factors needed to increase the operational flexibility of lorries and vans. It means to improve the interoperability among the vehicles, especially in terms of load unit handling in order to let each vehicle to support different mission profiles, reduce the number of circulating vehicles.
- innovative load units: like the vehicles they will operate in different missions. The load new design foresees a re-configurable internal layout that will enable different uses either as simple container or mobile pack station. In the latter case, the goal is the de-synchronization of the delivery process between operators and final customers in order to reduce the unsuccessful deliveries.
